Investment support for strategic transformation projects
As of 1/01/2022, the Flemish government has made essential changes to the subsidies it grants to companies that carry out large investment projects. This concerns investments that exceed 1 million euro, to be carried out in three years. Companies that carry out such projects can submit a subsidy application, which is assessed on the basis of a list of parameters, with a focus on innovation, sustainability and internationalisation.
By submitting a so-called transformation plan, it must be illustrated that the project has a 'transformative character'. This means that simple, periodically recurring investments are no longer subsidised by the Flemish Government.
The applicant companies must also demonstrate the stimulating character of the public support by comparing the investments/training that would have been undertaken in any case (i.e. also without the support) with the additional investments/training.
The grant amounts to 8% for investments and 20% for training, calculated from the eligible investment amount. The maximum aid a company can receive is limited to €500,000 per year, up to €1 million for sustainable transformation projects.
Important: investments or training cannot start before the application! As a result of the stricter European directives, since 1/7/2014 an order form is also required as proof of the start of an investment.
